Christmas without Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is hard to imagine. In the 2025/2026 season, the State Opera will present the beloved ballet The Nutcracker – A Christmas Story, directed and choreographed by Youri Vàmos, this time with new stage and costume design.

The Nutcracker is an inherent part of Christmas. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s phenomenal ballet enjoys great popularity among audiences worldwide. In the 2025/26 season, the Czech National Ballet has performed Yuri Vámos’s adaptation The Nutcracker - A Christmas Carol at the National Theatre, as well as at the State Opera.
The production at the State Opera is, however, differ from the original version by featuring new sets, designed by Martin Černý, and costumes created by Barbora Malenínská. Vámos’s choreography, direction and poetry remain the same. Ballet lovers thus be afforded more opportunities to see The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol.
The National Theatre and State Opera performances is identical in all but visual terms.

Practical information
Where to buy tickets
When purchasing online, you can get an e-ticket. You can pick up printed tickets in person at the box offices of the National Theatre.
The National Theatre sells tickets up to 6 months in advance - currently for September 2026 – February 2027.
Sales always start on the 1st day of the month at 9am, except in January when pre-sales do not start until the 2nd day due to a public holiday.
What to wear?
By their appearance, attire and behaviour, the audience is obliged to adhere to the accustomed practice expected from them when attending a theatre performance.
Parking at the State opera
While visiting the State Opera, you can take the slip road on Wilsonova street from the left lane close to the State Opera building to the Parking Centrum above-ground garage. The parking fee is 60 CZK/h.
