Biography
Javier Wong grew up moving between Ottawa, Beijing and London—a multicultural journey that shaped his fluency in English and French and fostered an early curiosity for different dance idioms. He laid his professional foundations at the National Ballet School of Canada (2016–2021) under Mavis Staines and Laurel Toto. In 2021 he was accepted into London’s Royal Ballet School – Upper School, training with Christopher Powney, Stuart Michael Cassidy, Paul Lewis and Zhan Atymtayev while simultaneously pursuing a BA in Dance Pedagogy at the University of Roehampton.
Still a student, Javier had his first taste of main-stage work with The Royal Ballet: he appeared as a Mouse, Ballroom Guest and Tabard Page in Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella and, on the company’s Japan tour of Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet, danced the Bridegroom in the ballroom scenes. In 2023 he debuted with Birmingham Royal Ballet in Peter Wright’s The Nutcracker, performing Cadet, Rat and the Trepak. Earlier Canadian seasons saw him in James Kudelka’s Nutcracker, including the title child role of Misha (2017).
Javier joined the Czech National Ballet as a corps member for the 2024/25 season. Thanks to rigorous classical schooling he was quickly entrusted with Benno, the Prince’s Friends and the Tarantella in John Cranko’s Swan Lake, as well as the Mazurka and Czardas escorts in Ronald Hynd’s Coppélia. On the contemporary side he brings kinetic punch to Sharon Eyal’s razor-edged solo Bill and the driving rhythms of Eyal Dadon’s Artza, contrasting that dynamic energy with the lyric phrasing of his classical repertoire.
