Czech baritone Martin Bareš is a remarkable presence on the opera scene, with a fascinating life story. He brings to the stage unwavering discipline, tremendous energy, and resilience drawn from his previous career — seventeen years in professional ice hockey. He studied economics at a university in Prague. He refined his bel canto vocal technique at the Accademia Nazionale di Belcanto Italiano. In Sicily, he studied under maestro Salvatore Fisichella and also took part in intensive vocal masterclasses led by Ugo Benelli. Today, he continues to develop his baritone voice under the guidance of Miguelangelo Cavalcanti.

He has already enjoyed successful guest appearances on the Italian peninsula itself, performing in Alessandria, Cremona, and at Milan’s Teatro Filodrammatici in the operatic roles of Belcore in L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti, Matteo Borsa in Rigoletto, and Gastone in La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. The core of his repertoire consists of lyrical roles from Italian opera. He is also deeply passionate about interpreting traditional Italian and Neapolitan songs, into which he channels his warm expression and life experience.
