The best contemporary Heldentenor Andreas Schager to appear at the State Opera Orchestra’s Beethoven-BergWagner concert
Opera lovers can look forward to the special Beethoven-Berg-Wagner concert, scheduled to take place on 16 November 2017 at 7 pm at the Forum Karlín in Prague. The programme includes the entire Act 1 of Richard Wagner’s opera Die Walküre, starring the celebrated Austrian Heldentenor Andreas Schager (Siegmund), the superlative American soprano Meagan Miller (Sieglinde) and the brilliant Slovak bass Peter Mikuláš (Hunding). The State Opera Orchestra will be conducted by Andreas Sebastian Weiser, the music director of the State Opera. The evening’s programme also encompasses Beethoven’s Leonore Overture 1, Op. 138, and Berg’s Violin Concerto, which will be performed by the gifted Austrian violinist Lidia Baich.

The new National Theatre Opera season to open with a unique concert featuring music from the era of the New German Theatre
The National Theatre Opera has launched its 135th season. For its opening concert, Petr Kofroň, the rtistic Director of the National Theatre Opera and State Opera, has chosen works that were included in the repertoire of the New German Theatre in Prague. All of the operas, whose overtures, interludes and ballet music will be performed during the gala evening, had acclaimed premieres, and some of them even went on to enjoy popularity on numerous renowned stages elsewhere. Nonetheless, they have fallen into oblivion. But has their fate been justified? Come and judge for yourselves on Thursday 14 September at 7 pm at the historical building of the National Theatre in Prague.
The last premiere of the season: Orphée aux enfers
The last premiere of this season will be Orphée aux enfers by the French composer Jacques Offenbach at the Karlín Music Theatre on 6 and 7 July staged. The renowned directorial duo of the Caban brothers created modern concept of the production - the audience will have the opportunity to take a look into the sometimes even tragicomic aspects of the European bureaucracy. The State Opera Orchestra will perform under the baton of Jan Chalupecký. The choreography was created by one of the leading contemporary choreographer of the Czech dance scene Jan Kodet. The author of the costume design is the world-known artist Simona Rybáková. The leading roles will be sung in alternations by Josef Moravec/Richard Samek (Orpheus) and Lenka Pavlovič/Jana Sibera (Eurydice).
Lohengrin in Prague – a remake of the Bayreuth Festival production from 1967 by Katharina Wagner
Prague audience has the priviledge to see a real event of the world of the opera: a production of Lohengrin that will be moved after its premiere from Bayreuth in 1967 to the capital city of the Czech republic in 2017. How is that possible? The iconic opera by Richard Wagner was originally directed by Wolfgang Wagner in 1967. Now it is revived by his daughter Katharina Wagner, German opera stage-director and co-director of the Bayreuth Festival and great grand-daughter of Richard Wagner.
