“All’s cheerless, dark, and deadly.” While the words spoken by the Earl of Kent at the end of Shakespeare’s tragedy of King Lear do not literally resound in the opera Lear by German composer Aribert Reimann, his expressive music captures them fully. The State Opera will present this work in its Czech premiere, directed by Barbora Horáková Joly and conducted by Hermann Bäumer. The premieres will take place on 7 and 12 June 2025 at the State Opera.
