Musica non grata invites to the second year of Terezín Music Academy dedicated to “degenerated” music
From 15 to 18 August 2022, the second year of the Terezín Music Academy will be held on the premises of the former Terezín ghetto and in Prague. The Academy is a ongoing cooperation between the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Czech Republic and the Terezín Composers’ Institute within the framework of the Musica non grata project. Concerts, lectures, rehearsals and workshops will be open to the general public free of charge.
National Theatre, Czech Philharmonic and Smetana’s Litomyšl Festival to co-host the greatest opera conference Opera Europa
Prague and Litomyšl will become a true mecca of the opera world. More than three hundred opera managers from 43 countries of the world will meet at the heart of Europe to discuss the future of the genre and watch latest opera productions. The conference will take place in the renovated building of the State Opera, in Rudolfinum and the State Castle of Litomyšl. The event will be attended by representatives of leading European theatres – Covent Garden, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid, Bayerisches Staatsoper, Oper Leipzig, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Teatr Wielki, Norwegian National Opera and many others.
The State Opera in Flames! A Don Juan tale as told by Calixto Bieito
As a part of the Musica non grata cycle, the State Opera will present a Czech version of the surrealist opera Flammen (Flames) by Erwin Schulhoff, for the first time since its world premiere in Brno in 1932. On this occasion, the National Theatre team reconstructed the original Czech libretto by Karel Josef Beneš. This unusual Don Juan tale will be told by Calixto Bieito, the musical side of the production was entrusted to Jiří Rožeň. For the first time, State Opera will burst in Flames on Sunday 12 June.
Diverse European Theatres and Artists from Ukraine Take Centre Stage at ETC International Theatre Conference in Prague
The ETC International Theatre Conference, run by the European Theatre Convention (ETC) in partnership with Národní divadlo – the National Theatre, will run from 19-22 May 2022 and will bring together almost 120 senior theatre professionals from leading theatres around the continent.
New Bartered Bride production in the National Theatre will allow spectators to take a peek behind the scenes
The Bartered Bride, a comic opera by Bedřich Smetana, will premiere its new production in the National Theatre on 26th and 28 May 2022. This will be the twenty-first production of this beloved piece in the history of the National Theatre.
National Theatre’s soloist, Kateřina Kněžíková, and the new Music Director of the National Theatre Opera, Robert Jindra, awarded the prestigious BBC Music Magazine Vocal Award for the world’s best recording in the category
Kateřina Kněžíková recorded her Phidyle album, published by Supraphon, together with Robert Jindra conducting the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra. She was previously nominated for the Czech Anděl Awards in the category of Classical Music and has now won the prize for the world’s best artist in the vocal category.
