About

The next installment of the educational program Dance On, under the ND+ banner, will offer ballet enthusiasts a glimpse into what a soloist rehearsal looks like on October 15. This year marks the anniversary of Franz Kafka's death, so we will continue our behind-the-scenes look at the preparation of artistic works inspired by his writings. This time, we will focus on Kafka: The Trial, a ballet created by choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, who will be present at the rehearsal.

We will observe how soloists Giovanni Rotolo, Kristina Kornová, and Miho Ogimoto prepare for the demanding lead roles, which challenge them both technically and dramatically. The ballet master, Alexandre Katsapov, will oversee the refinement of individual solo performances and the technical passages crucial to the roles.

Kafka: The Trial follows the story of Josef K., who is unexpectedly arrested by unknown officials on his thirtieth birthday. He does not know the charges against him and finds himself trapped in an absurd and unsettling legal system. The story explores themes of guilt, powerlessness, and alienation. Mauro Bigonzetti choreographically interprets Kafka’s world through a dark and expressive production.

Join us to see how such an atmosphere is created through movement, and prepare for three unique performances at the Estates Theatre on November 9 and 16.
