KYLIÁN - Bridges of Time - new premiere of The Czech National Ballet!

The first production to be premiered in the new The Czech National Ballet season, titled KYLIÁN – Bridges of Time, will primarily pay tribute to the globally renowned Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián and his extensive work, which has inspired artists all over the world. It will also mark the centenary of the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic, the Czechs’ freedom and independence. The first gala performance will take place on 11 October 2018 at the National Theatre in Prague.

FIDELIO. Die einzige Oper Beethovens wird am Ständetheater mit dem Orchester und dem Chor der Staatsoper Prag aufgeführt werden. Das Nationaltheater Prag bringt eine neue Produktion der Oper Fidelio, eine Inszenierung der renommierten bulgarisch-deutschen Regisseurin Vera Nemirova unter der musikalischen Leitung des Musikdirektors der Staatsoper Prag, Andreas Sebastian Weiser. In den Hauptrollen werden hervorragende einheimische sowie anerkannte internationale Solisten singen. Premieren am 22. und 23. September.

New Artistic Director of the Opera to be named by the National Theatre Director for 2019/2020

The National Theatre director Prof. MgA. Jan Burian has notified the Minister of Culture Antonín Staněk that he will name a new Director of Opera starting from 2019/2020. From September 2019 the first Czech opera ensemble will be directed by a Per Boye Hansen, a renowned Norweigan music manager.

Don Giovanni to return to the Estates Theatre in Prague in August 2018 in Václav Kašlík’s famed production

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera, replete with love, passion and machinations, is to be restaged at the Estates Theatre from 9 to 31 August 2018. The audience will have the opportunity to see the production revived in the previous season in Prague by Plácido Domingo in two gala performances marking the 230th anniversary of Don Giovanni’s world premiere at the Estates Theatre. The cast includes soloists of the National Theatre Opera and the State Opera, accompanied by the State Opera Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Richard Hein and Jiří Štrunc.

The National Theatre to round off the season with a Verdi blockbuster – Nabucco directed by José Cura

The new National Theatre production of Verdi’s Nabucco will be premiered on 28 June 2018 at the Karlín Music Theatre, which has temporarily hosted State Opera performances during the time of its current refurbishment.

The National Theatre to present Werther, staged by the renowned director Willy Decker in Prague on 7 and 9 June

Jules Massenet’s opera, based on J. W. Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, is returning to the National Theatre in Prague after almost 80 years. The new production will receive its premiere on 7 and 9 June 2018.
