La Gioconda is a work that forms a bridge between Verdi's Romanticism and emerging verismo and, with its great ballet entry, also refers to the tradition of French opera.

La Gioconda is certainly not a sentimental idyll that was still composed at the time of its inception (1876) - it is a realistic drama that presents the turbulent fate of its actors so credibly that it could easily be an image of contemporary society. Under the cheerful carnival exterior, Renaissance Venice conceals intrigues, a tangle of the invincible power of the authorities, secret police, spies and the state inquisition. It is fun in fear, laughing through tears. Against the backdrop of such social situation, the intricate fates of the main characters of the love triangle - Gioconda, Laura and Enzo.

When purchasing online, you can get an e-ticket. You can pick up printed tickets in person at the box offices of the National Theatre.
The National Theatre sells tickets up to 6 months in advance - currently for September 2026 – February 2027.
Sales always start on the 1st day of the month at 9am, except in January when pre-sales do not start until the 2nd day due to a public holiday.
By their appearance, attire and behaviour, the audience is obliged to adhere to the accustomed practice expected from them when attending a theatre performance.
While visiting the State Opera, you can take the slip road on Wilsonova street from the left lane close to the State Opera building to the Parking Centrum above-ground garage. The parking fee is 60 CZK/h.
