Petr Vítek


He comes from Nové Veselí in the Highlands region. In 2011, he first received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Hradec Králové. Only then did he move to Prague, where he began studying stage direction and dramaturgy at the Faculty of Theatre on Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under the guidance of Tomáš Žižka. In 2014, he completed an internship at the Estates Theatre with director Robert Wilson, who influenced him by distinctive minimalist aesthetics. He continued his studies at the Department of Scenography of Alternative and Lute Theatre and graduated in 2017. Already during his studies, he established cooperation with professional stages. In the drama theatre, he continuously collaborates with directors Adam Svozil and Kristýna Kosová, as well as with Tomáš Loužný, with whom he worked on the production Only the End of the World (the JK Tyl Theatre in Pilsen). He created set designs for the Theatre Na Zábradlí in Prague, the Klicpera Theater in Hradec Králové, the South Bohemian Theatre and the Municipal Theatre in Kladno. He also collaborates with the independent Theatre Letí in Villa Štvanice. His opera projects are Mikado (South Bohemian Theatre) and La Gioconda (Banská Bystrica), both directed by Dominik Beneš, or Mascagni's Iris, Jirásek's The Beetles, Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea and Gluck's Alceste (Plzeň), among others. Scenography by Petr Vítek is pure and poetic and frequently experiments with non-traditional materials. His characteristic means of expression and art is light, which becomes an inseparable element of scenography. In addition to the theatre, he also works for films and is involved in graphic design.
