Symphonic poem The Storm by Vítězslav Novák returns to the National Theatre after 73 years
The National Theatre presents The Storm, a masterpiece by Vítězslav Novák, a brilliant protege of Antonín Dvořák. Novák's symphonic poem is a mesmerizing sea fantasy featuring solos, chorus, and orchestra, inspired by Svatopluk Čech's poetic text. Commissioned by Brněnská Beseda to celebrate its 50th anniversary, this composition premiered in 1910, earning resounding success and critical acclaim.
At the heart of this dramatic cantata lies the sea, depicted as both an elemental force and a living organism. Novák drew inspiration from his own travels, seamlessly melding symphonic and vocal elements.
