Hamlet
Directed by PSC Artistic Director Guy Roberts
Hamlet is Shakespeare’s greatest and most famous creation. In this special English-language Short Shakespeare production, the audience experiences the world of the play through Hamlet’s eyes – only seeing and hearing the scenes and moments that the character Hamlet experiences in the play. Taking this singular journey with the Prince of Denmark, audiences will understand the actions, themes and motives of the play’s main character as never before. Whether seen as story of devastating human domestic passions or a suspenseful political mystery of intrigue, revenge and betrayal, the tragedy of Denmark’s “sweet prince” continues to challenge and inspire. Performed by an ensemble who all take on the role of Hamlet at various times throughout the evening, the production highlights that we are all Hamlet as we face the challenges and possibilities of today. Directed by PSC Artistic Director Guy Roberts who also appears as Claudius and starring emerging talent from the 2023 PSC Summer Shakespeare Intensive. 75 minutes, followed by 20 minute interval
Much Ado About Nothing
Directed by Carolyn and Jim Johnson
Packed with intrigue, double crossing and plenty of laughter, Much Ado About Nothing is the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for everyone. Following the turbulent romances between Hero and Claudio and Beatrice and Benedict, this exploration of what loyalty, chivalry, and true love really mean empowers people to challenge their own perceptions of relationships. Shakespeare’s comic romance plays out amidst the brittle high spirits of a post-war house party, as youthful passions run riot, lovers are deceived and happiness is threatened – before peace ultimately wins out. One of the most popular comedies in the English language. Acclaimed American theatre artists Carolyn and Jim Johnson direct and star as Beatrice and Benedick alongside PSC Associate Artist Jeff Smith as Leonato with an ensemble cast from the PSC 2023 Summer Shakespeare Intensive training program. 75 minutes
