Zuzana Koś Kopřivová

Biography

Zuzana Kopřivová debuted in the musical Za zvuků hudby (The Sound of Music), staged at the Karlín Music Theatre in 2002. Between 2005 and 2011, she was engaged at the Children’s Opera Prague, where she sang a number of solo roles. In 2010, she portrayed the lead role of Rózinka in the company’s production of J. Křička’s opera Ogaři (Country Boys and Their Games), presented at Smetana’s Litomyšl festival. That year, she also performed as Anette in the world premiere of the musical Marguerite, hosted at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. In 2012, she enrolled at the Prague Conservatory, where she attended the class of Yvona Škvárová. While still a student, she appeared as a soloist at representative concerts held by the voice department and was cast in the lead roles in school performances: Valencienne (F. Lehár: Die lustige Witwe), Eurydice (J. Offenbach: Orphée aux enfers), Psyché (J. B. Lully: Psyché) and Květava the fairy (J. R. Rozkošný: The Black Lake). Since 2018, she has been studying with Yvona Škvárová at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Zuzana Kopřivová has garnered a number of accolades at vocal competitions, including the Prague Singer, the Jan Dušek Competition and the Bohuslav Martinů Song Competition. In the 2016/17 school year, she came second in the top category at the competition of conservatories in Pardubice; in 2017, she received third prize at the Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary, and also won the Beno Blachut Prize. In 2017, she debuted at the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Plzeň as Pauline in the premiere of its production of Jacques Offenbach’s operetta La vie parisienne. Furthermore, she has appeared in Plzeň in the role of Pavlína Tichá in M. Kubička’s opera Jakub Jan Ryba, as the Turnspit in a version for children of A. Dvořák’s Rusalka, and also portrayed the lead dole in R. Benatzky’s operetta Bezauberndes Fräulein (The Charming Young Lady). The latest role she has been assigned is that of the Page in Z. Fibich’s opera The Bride of Messina. Her concert repertoire ranges from medieval to 21st-century music.
