Ziyi Dai
Biography
The Chinese soprano Ziyi Dai will make her National Theatre debut in 2024 as Zerbinetta in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos.
She studied at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, as well as at the Manhattan School of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music in New York. She has taken part in master classes with Javier Camarena, Enza Ferrari, Eric Owens and Ferruccio Furlanetto, among others, and is a prizewinner at the Huang Long Music Festival, the Premiere Opera Foundation Singing Competition and the Daniel Biaggi Palm Beach Opera Prize.
Ziyi is a former member of the international opera studio of the Zurich Opera between where she has sung, among other roles, La Comtesse in Rossini’s Le comte Ory, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro and Zerlina in Don Giovanni by Mozart. Upcoming engagements in Zurich are including Zerbinetta in Strauss‘s Ariadne auf Naxos and Marzelline in Beethoven’s Fidelio. She also debuted as Amina in La sonnambula by Bellini in the summer of 2023 at the Buxton International Festival.
Together with her father, the renowned opera tenor Yuqiang Dai she sang in the USA at the Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in a concert series with arias by Puccini, Verdi and Léhar as well as well-known Chinese folk songs.
