Vuvu Mpofu

The South African soprano Vuvu Mpofu makes her debut at the National Theatre Opera in May 2024 as Violetta (La traviata). Her recent operatic appearances include: Gilda (Rigoletto) and Musetta (La bohème) for the Glyndebourne Festival; Astarte (Schreker: Der Schmied von Gent) and Musetta for the Opera Vlaanderen; Leila (Les pêcheurs de perles) for Cape Town Opera, Violetta (La traviata) at the Seattle and Pittsburgh Operas; Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at State Opera Stuttgart; Cunegonde (Candide) at Welsh National Opera and the Bergen National Opera; First Nymph (Rusalka) at the Royal Opera House in London and at the Glyndebourne Festival, Blumenmädchen (Parsifal, conducted by Kirill Petrenko) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Rossini Opera Festival and Opera Köln; Clara (Porgy and Bess) at the Teatro Real, Madrid and Teatro Colón, Buenos Aries; Lauretta (Gianni Schicci) at the Teatro dell’Opera de Roma and at the Welsh National Opera. Vuvu was a prizewinner at the Operalia and Belvedere Competitions and a participant of the Accademia Rossiniana at the Rossini Opera Festival. She was awarded the John Christie Award at the 2019 Glyndebourne Festival.
