Biography

The Russian lyric-dramatic soprano Veronika Dzhioeva studied with Tamara Novichenko at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg. She has attended master classes by Elena Obraztsova, Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pavarotti. Her career took off in Athens after she won third prize at the 2005 International Maria Callas Competition. In 2006, her performance of Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Moscow International Music House was hailed as the ‘debut of the year’ by the Russian magazine Culture. In her homeland, Veronika Dzhioeva is a leading soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet and one of the star soloists of the Bolshoy Theatre in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, in addition to appearing regularly in Western Europe, the United States and the Far East on both the opera and the concert stage. She works with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Pletnev, Yuri Bashmet, Mariss Jansons, Trevor Pinnock and Vladimir Spivakov and has shared the stage with such singers as Anna Netrebko and Sergei Leiferkus.
