Biography
Tuire Grönthal studied singing at the Salo Music School 1980-82 and at the Helsinki Conservatory under Matti Pelo and Marja Eskola 1982-91. She graduated as a solo singing teacher in 1988 and completed her post-graduate degree in the teaching of singing in 1991. She has participated in both private and master classes with, among others, Ritva Auvinen, Elio Battaglia, Kim Borg, Herbert Brauer, Horst Günter, James King, Gladys Kuchta and Vera Rozsa.
Tuire Grönthal received an Award of Merit in the Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition in 1985 and she was sixth in the Lappeenranta Singing Competition in 1987. She has performed as a soloist in many lied, operetta, church and opera concerts and with choirs and orchestras. She guested at the Estonia Theatre in 1988 and 1992, at the Jugendfestspieltreffen opera course in Bayreuth 1986-87, in the group of soloists in the Association of Finnish Opera 1989 and 1997 and at the Finnish National Opera from 1998 onwards.
Tuire Grönthal’s opera roles include the Countess in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, the title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Helmwige in Wagner’s Die Walküre and Brünhilde in Siegfried, the third Norn in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, and Minnie in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West.
