Thomas Kaiser

Biography

Thomas Kaiser was born in Bavaria, Germany. After completing tailor training in Hamburg, he worked as a wardrobe master in Krefeld, Essen and Hanover, and became costume director at the Staatstheater Hannover (2004-2008). Since 2006, he has been a costume designer, since 2008 as a freelancer. Thomas Kaiser has worked for the Theater Nordhausen, the Teatro Pérez Galdós Gran Canaria, the Hanover State Opera, the Theater Mainz, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Theater Regensburg, the Opera Leipzig, the Theater St. Gallen and the Bayreuth Festival. He has created the costumes for productions of the operas Tannhäuser, La Bohème, Tiefland, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow, Die tote Stadt, La finta giardiniera and Rienzi, and the ballets Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, Le Sacre du printemps, Intimate Letters, The Firebird, among others. He has collaborated with the stage directors Katharina Wagner, Hans Jörg Hack, Jan Schmidt-Garre, Lydia Steier, Matthias von Stegmann and Waltraud Lehner, and the choreographers Yuki Mori, Catherine Torwesten, Mark McClain, Jörg Mannes, etc. Thomas Kaiser has also designed the costumes for Katharina Wagner’s production of Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival.
