Biography

 Belgian tenor Thomas Blondelle opened the 2024/25 season with debuts at the Bregenz Festival as Max in Der Freischütz and the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen as Apollo-Dionysos in Trojahn’s Orest. Other highlights of the season include Herod (Salome) in Antwerp and Riga, as well as his debut as Siegfried in Richard Wagner’s »Siegfried« under Kent Nagano in Prague, Paris and Dresden.

Thomas Blondelle’s extensive repertoire includes roles such as Edwin (Die Csárdásfürstin), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Idomeneo (Idomeneo), Lenski (Eugene Onegin), Cassio (Otello), Pelléas (Pelléas et Mélisande), Herod (Salome), Loge (Das Rheingold), Stolzing (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Parsifal, and the Drum Major (Wozzeck). During his studies, Thomas Blondelle made his debut at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels as Hans Scholl in Die Weiße Rose. After engagements at the Staatstheater Braunschweig and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, he now performs as a guest in cities such as Munich, Vienna, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt, as well as at festivals like the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Lucerne Festival, and the BBC Proms. Blondelle has performed with renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de Paris, and has collaborated with conductors such as Simon Rattle, Kent Nagano, Carlo Rizzi, and Donald Runnicles. In addition to his opera and concert work, the tenor is an active lieder singer, librettist, and composer. Since 2021, Blondelle has been a professor at the LUCA School of Arts, where he develops concepts and coaches for the institutions’s opera productions. Thomas Blondelle has received the Young Talent Prize at the Viñas Competition in 2005 and the second prize at the Concours Reine Elisabeth in 2011.
