Tereza Durdilová


Tereza Durdilová was born in 1975 in Prague. After finishing grammar school, she studied advertising and promotional graphics at the V. Hollar Arts School and later on set design at the Drama School of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) with Professor J. Malina (1997-2000). At DAMU she also studied theatre anthropology, authorial creation and pedagogy, graduating with a master‘s degree (2004). Between 2000 and 2002 she worked as a set design assistant in the famous Thalia Theater and subsequently in Hamburg’s Deutsches Schauspielhaus. Upon her return to the Czech Republic, she began extensive collaboration with a host of theatres and experimental spaces. Her numerous projects include The Miser (Disk, 2000), Witkiewicz’s The Crazy Locomotive (Divadlo Nablízko, 2000), The Drum from Nangnang, stage director Ho Shin (Divadlo Ponec, 2002-03), the dance performance Eva (Moravian-Silesian National Theatre, 2003) and Ski-fi (Divadlo Ponec, 2003), the author performances The Jaws (Roxy-NOD, 2003) and Once Annacted (NOD, 2004). In the National Theatre she designed sets and costumes for the opera Saxons in Bohemia within the Pounding on the Iron Curtain VII project (2004). Tereza Durdilová has also worked on a number of untraditional projects, such as street theatre costume processions, the site-specific project Subway (2001-4) in Prague – Letňany (interconnection of sociological and town-planning research and studies with theatre and art happenings), a multimedia installation – the Divadlo Minor Festival 2003, scenic reading of the play Hysterikon (author: I. Lausund, translation: T. Durdilová, 2001) and the creation of a Czech-German site-specific performance in the Broumov Culture Centre, 2002. Recent activities of note include audio and art installations and participation in the performance Sachio Takahashi at Prague Quadrennial 2003.
