Biography

The mezzo-soprano Teresa Romano is making her National Theatre debut in the 2022/23 season in the role of Amneris in Aida (a State Opera production). Born in Campania, after graduating from the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Martucci in Salerno she went on to study at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala (2005-07). In Milan she has portrayed Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Madama Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims), and other roles. She has performed in La clemenza di Tito at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, in Marseille and Modena; in Mefistofele at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome; in Otello at the Arena di Verona, opposite Plácido Domingo at a gala evening in his honour; in La forza del destino and Un ballo in maschera at the Sferisterio in Macerata; and in Il Trovatore at the Teatro Regio in Parma. She has also appeared as Turandot at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofìa in Valencia and the Teatro La Fenice in Venice; as Principessa de Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvreur in Modena and Verona; as La Gioconda in Verona, Pavia, Brescia and Como, etc. In June 2013, she was one of the five finalists in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
