Tamás Juronics

Biography

The artistic director, dancer, choreographer and stage director Tamás Juronics was born in Tata, Hungary. After graduating from the Folk Dance Faculty of the Hungarian Dance Academy, he was engaged by Zoltán Imre at the Szeged Ballet. In 1991, he started presenting his own choreographies and since 1991 has been artistic director of the Szeged Contemporary Ballet. He was among the first to use contemporary dance elements in his choreographies, which were performed by professional dancers with great technical skill. Today, Juronics is an internationally acclaimed artist and has created more than 50 choreographies. The careful combination of his storylines, the clear, unified form and the dramatic structure make his works highly inspiring. Spectacular sets, lighting, effects and music are also important, integral parts of his works. As a choreographer, director of drama productions, musicals (West Side Story, Hair) and operas (Les contes d’Hoffmann, Rigoletto, La traviata, etc.), he has worked for numerous theatres, including the National Theatres in Budapest and Szeged, the Vígszínház in Budapest and others. The numerous accolades and honours he has received include the Philip Morris Flower Award, Artist of Merit, the Dömötör and Eck Imre Prizes, the Euro-pas and the Kossuth Prize.
