Biography
Guest of the National Theatre Opera.
Harrison made his opera debut in 1995 in the United States at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York City as the tenor soloist in the Verdi Requiem, as well as the New York City Opera as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème and the Italian Singer in Strauss’s Rosenkavalier. He appeared with the Washington Opera as Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. He made his European debut in 2000 at Brussels’ Royal Opéra de la Monnaie with Antonio Pappano in Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero. Since that time, Harrison has been sought after on the European continent, and was named “Best Singer of the Year” (2004) by Germany’s prestigious Süddeutsche Zeitung (Nordrhein Westfallen Edition).
His repertoire comprises the key roles of the french and italian operatic repertoire – Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Gounod’s Faust, Massenet’s Werther, Aeneas in Berlioz’s Les Troyens, Hagenbach in Catalani’s opera La Wally, Samson in Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila, Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Pollione in Bellini’s Norma, Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata, Turiddu in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Giordano’s Andrea Chenier, Faust in Boito’s Mephistopheles, Puccini’s Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Cavaradossi in Tosca and others.
Steven Harrison is a permanent guest of Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, he was also heard in Oper Leipzig, Staatstheater Kassel, Theater Krefeld, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, at the Macerata Opera Festival, in Baltimore Opera, National Theatre Opera in Prague and others.
In 2007/2008 he has reunited with Maestro Antonio Pappano in Rome at L’Accademia di Santa Cecilia singing the Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. For more information, visit www.stevenharrison.org
