Born in New Zealand, Sophie moved to Australia when she was 6 yrs old and commenced ballet training not long after. She studied at Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy in Sydney then undertook a year of intensive freelance training under Prue Bowen, Garth Welch and Vicki Attard, before joining The Australian Ballet School in Melbourne in 2001. While at The Australian Ballet School Sophie received the Gailene Stock Achievement Award and the Elizabeth McDonald Memorial Scholarship as well as awards for excellence in music and VCE studies. While studying Sophie was also chosen to participate in an exchange trip, for four weeks, with the National Ballet School of Canada. After graduating from The Australian Ballet School with an Advanced Diploma, Sophie joined The Australian Ballet where she has performed in numerous works, some of which include: Meryl Tankard’s Wild Swans, Balanchine’s Serenade and Symphony in C, Graeme Murphy’s Swan Lake, Jiri Kylian’s Sechs Tanze and Stephen Baynes’ Constant Variants. In 2005 Sophie received a travel scholarship, from the Australian Ballet, which enabled her to take classes with New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Houston Ballet. In 2008 Sophie joined the West Australian Ballet to perform Bianca in Cranko’s Taming of the Shrew and she remained there for two years again performing many works, her favourites being: Alejandro Cerrudo’s Lickety Split and Petr Zuska’s Bolero and The Rite of Spring.
Since joining Czech National Ballet in 2010 (until 2015), Sophie has performed Cygnets in Kenethe Greve’s Swan Lake, the Joy fairy in Javier Torres’ The Sleeping Beauty, Christoper Bruce’s Dance at the Crossroads, Jean Christophe Maillot’s Cinderella, Youri Vàmos´s The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol and Balanchine’s Theme and Variations to name a few.
