Sonja Tinnes

Biography

Sonja Tinnes grew up in Zurich. She received her training in dance and ballet pedagogy at the Royal Ballet School in London, where she was awarded the Benesh Prize for dance notation. While still studying at the Benesh Institute of Choreology in London, she collaborated as a guest with the Hamburg Ballet. In 1996, she joined the company as a choreologist, working with John Neumeier on more than forty productions.

She has staged numerous ballets by John Neumeier around the world, including for the Finnish National Ballet in Helsinki, the Stanislavsky Ballet in Moscow, the National Ballet of Canada, the Australian Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen, the Ballet of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam, the Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, the Vienna State Ballet, and the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow
