Silvia Beláková

Biography

Born in Bratislava, Silvia Beláková studied contemporary dance teaching at the local Academy of Performing Arts. She was a member of the Bralen Dance Theatre (1993–2003) and a soloist of the Slovak Dance Theatre. Since 2000, she has regularly collaborated with the renowned choreographer Ján Ďurovčík. She has appeared in musicals in Slovakia and the Czech Republic (Some Like It Hot, Hamlet, The Gypsy Camp Goes to Heaven, Cleopatra, Hair, The Pied Piper, Zorba the Greek, West Side Story, Romeo and Juliet, Painted on Glass, The Firebird, Carmen, Atlantis, Rasputin, etc.). After ending her career as a dancer, Silvia has worked as a choreographer and educator. She has created choreographies for theatres in Slovakia and the Czech Republic: the Slovak National Theatre (Partybre(a)kers, Die Zauberflöte, The Fairy Tale of a Happy Ending), the Zlín Municipal Theatre (Fiddler on the Roof, The Master and Margarita, The Man of La Mancha, Lemonade Joe, Cabaret), the Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra (They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, Sweet Charity, Panic), the Bolek Polívka Theatre (The Scythe, Papillon), the New Stage in Bratislava (The Winter’s Tale, The Servant of Two Masters, Mamma Mia!, etc.), the State Opera in Banská Bystrica (The Duchess of Chicago), the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin (BathoryThe Legend is Back), the Radošina Naïve Theatre (Mr Tree), etc. Noteworthy too is her work on the charity project Hnízda záchrany (Lifesaving Nests) and the Slovak premiere of the rock musical Rent (2007) at Bratislava’s Istropolis theatre. For a number of years, she cooperated with the Credance group. In 2015, she created the choreography for the acrobatic show Argolla 5th Element, with which she participated in a tour of South Korea and China. She also choreographed the production The Journey to Argolla Wonderland, which was performed to great acclaim in Qatar and Kuwait.
