Biography

Soprano Sarah Wegener is sought after as an interpreter of the Classical and Romantic literature as well as works by contemporary composers. She has performed Strauss’ Orchestral songs under Mariss Jansons and Vladimir Jurowski in Munich, London, and Hamburg, Strauss’ Four Last Songs under Daniel Harding, and Mahler’s 8th Symphony under Kirill Petrenko, Vasily Petrenko, James Conlon, Eliahu Inbal, and Kent Nagano. She has collaborated with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Peter Rundel, Heinz Holliger, Sylvain Cambreling and others, as well as orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Engagements have taken her to the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Wiener Festwochen, the Royal Opera House London, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Suntory Hall Tokyo, the Elbphilharmonie, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Royal Albert Hall London and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Sarah Wegener’s discography includes recordings of works by Boesmans, Korngold, Mozart, Rossini, Kurtág, by and with Heinz Holliger. She was nominated for Singer of the Year at OPUS Klassik 2019 for her recording of Widmann’s Third Labyrinth, the solo part of which was written for her by the composer. In 2023, a recording of songs arranged by B.A. Zimmermann with the WDR Symphony Orchestra was released by WERGO, which was awarded the Choc de Classica, Diapason d’Or and the German Record Critics’Award.
