Roberto Catalano
Biography
Roberto Catalano was born in Palermo in 1985
He has a university degree in Philosophy and Ethics.
In 2014 he won the director’s competition of Festival Orizzonti of Chiusi (SI) with the diptych Pierrot Lunaire and Gianni Schicchi.
Also in 2014, in the occasion of the project “La Scuola va al Massimo”, he directed Otello and Don Giovanni at Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
In 2016, he worked as writer and director for the project of AsLiCo “OperaEducation”, a new version of La Bohème at Teatro Sociale in Como, Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan and the Philharmonic Academy in Rome.
In 2016, he also directed a new production of L’Elisir d’Amore in Beirut for the third edition of OperaStudio and a new version of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Auditorium Paganini in Parma.
In January 2017, he continued directing for AsLiCo, the XII edition of PocketOpera, with a new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
In April of the same year, he directed Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Beirut together with the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lebanese Conservatory and Università Antonina.
In June 2017, he made his debut at Festival Monteverdi directing the diptych Il Ballo delle Ingrate and Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda that went on stage in Cremona, Mantova, and Venice.
In the following November, he lead the direction of the diptych Che Originali and Pigmalione for the Donizetti Opera 2017.
Starting in January 2018, he directed a new staging of La Traviata for the XIII edition of PocketOpera.
In cooperation with the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lebanese Conservatory and Università Antonina, he curated a new staging of Le Nozze di Figaro in Beirut in April.
In July 2018, he lead the direction of Don Pasquale for the Summer Season of Teatro Massimo in Palermo and a new staging of Falsfaff for the 18/19 season of OperaLombardia, jointly with the Rete Lirica delle Marche and Teatro Marruccino in Chieti that hosted the final show of the tour in March 2019.
In December 2019, he directed a new production of Il Trovatore in Sassari for the new season of the Ente Concerti Marialisa De Carolis.
This June in 2020, he directed Rigoletto al Barsò for the Teatro Regio in Parma, one of the first italian productions after the lockdown.
In March 2021, he made his debut at Auditorio de Tenerife directing Il Matrimonio Segreto for the VIII edition of Opera(e)Studio, a project of Opera de Tenerife jointly with the Teatro Regio di Parma and the Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
