Biography
Romanian mezzo-soprano Ramona Zaharia makes her National Theatre Opera debut in August 2023 in the title role of Carmen. Ramona Zaharia graduated from the George Enescu Conservatoire in Iasi. She began her career in October 2009 at the Romanian National Opera in Temesvar, and in 2012 she made her debut at the festival in St. Margarethen, Austria as Carmen. Since the 2014/15 season she has been a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf. Her guest appearances have taken her to major opera houses including Teatro Regio di Parma, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Latvian National Opera in Riga, State Opera Hamburg, State Opera Stuttgart, Riga, Seoul, Malmö, Brussels, Luxembourg, Istanbul, etc. In February 2019 she debuted at the Metropolitan Opera, New York in the role of Maddalena (Rigoletto) and in September 2021 in the same role at the Royal Opera House in London. Her repertoire also includes roles such as Eboli (Don Carlo), Fenena (Nabucco), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), Amneris (Aida), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Erda (Das Rheingold), Dinah (Trouble in Tahiti), Principessa di Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur), Federica (Luisa Miller) and the title role in Herodiade, among others.
