Demi-soloist of the National Theatre Ballet Radek Vrátil was born in Prague. He began his dancer’s career in a folk ensemble. From 1985 to 1992 he studied modern dance techniques in the University Arts Ensemble of Charles University under the tutelage of I. Kubicová, J. Hartman and V. Schneiderová, and classical ballet with Prof. I. Krob, A. Halász and A. Kliková. There he encountered many foreign teachers and choreographers, and also performed in the Prague Dance Theatre ensemble. In 1992 he joined the Prague Chamber Ballet, where he danced in choreographies by Pavel Šmok (Sinfonietta, The Wedding, On an Overgrown Path, Stabat Mater, Golem, The Dove, From My Life, Cleared Night, The Double), Libor Vaculík (Getting Dark, The Boy and Death, Frescos, Slavonic Duets, Hiroshima, Don Juan, Dances to Brahms, La Dame aux camelias), Jiří Kylián (Picollo mondo, Stoolgame, Six Dances, Evening Songs), Petr Zuska (Little Gallows, Seul, Sonata), Petr Tyc (Biblical Dances, Ithaca), Robert North (Death and the Maiden, Bolero), Pieter de Ruiter (Burning Strings, Zero Time), Jochen Hackman (Shaker Loops), Christopher Bruce (Sergeant Early’s Dream) and Patrick Delcroix (Son chemin). At the same time, he also collaborated with Jiří Srnec’s Black Theatre. In 2001, he was a guest performer at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec. Since the 2004-2005 season he has been a member of the National Theatre Ballet, where in 2006 he became a demi-soloist. Audiences have had the opportunity to see him in the ballets Giselle, Swan Lake (the Spanish Dance), The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol (Scrooge), Raymonda, The Taming of the Shrew, Onegin (Gremin), Lucrezia Borgia (Pedro), Goldilocks (Jirik) and Romeo and Juliet (Tybalt). As regards the modern repertoire, he has danced in choreographies by Petr Zuska: Ways 03, Among the Mountains, IBBUR, or A Prague Mystery, Requiem, BREL – VYSOTSKY – KRYL / Solo for Three and D.M.J. 1953-1977, Jiří Kylián: Stamping Ground and Petite Mort, Nacho Duato: Jardí Tancat, Stijn Celis: Black and Blues, Conny Janssen: Álbum Familiar, Itzik Galili: Through Nana’s Eyes and Zuzana Šimáková: 6 Halves of a Human. He is currently collaborating with Tomáš Rychetský and David Stránský’s TODAnce Company on the dance projects Positive?, Four, Nanopicture and Broken Dreams.
