Ovidiu Purcel
Biography
The Romanian tenor Ovidiu Purcel studied at the GheorgheDimaMusicAcademy in Cluj with Marius Vlad Budoiu. He has won a number of Romanian voice competitions. His repertoire includes the roles of Sesto (Handel: Gulio Cesare in Egitto), Tamino (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte), Ferrando (Mozart: Così fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Nemorino (Donizetti: L’elisir d’amore), Ernesto (Donizetti: Don Pasquale) and Sellem (Stravinsky: The Rake’s Progress). He has regularly performed at the Romanian National Opera in Cluj, with the Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra and also appeared in Tel Aviv. In the 2011/12 season he was a member of the Opera Studio at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, portraying the roles of Paolino (Cimarosa: Il matrimonio segreto), Müller (Montsalvatge: El gato con botas), the Fisherman (Stravinsky: Le rossignol), Tamino (The Magic Flute for Children), Love (Rameau: Castor et Pollux) and Rosen in the premiere of Anno Schreier’s chamber opera Mörder Kaspar Brand. Since the 2012/13 season he has been engaged at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
