Otokar Klein
Biography
Guest of the National Theatre Opera. The tenor Otokar Klein studied opera singing at Bratislava’s Conservatory and Academy of Performing Arts with Prof. Zlatica Livorová. Subsequently, he attended several voice and interpretation courses given by Andrej Kucharský, Eva Blahová and Cristina Deutekom. He has collaborated with the chamber singer Prof. Marga Schiml and with Paula Molinari. While still a student, he became a soloist of the Chamber Opera and Opera of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. In 1999 he made successful debuts at Prague’s National Theatre as Vašek in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest as Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and at the Slovak National Theatre as Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Furthermore, he received accolades at Vienna’s Staatsoper, Volksoper and Theater an der Wien, at Dresden’s Semperoper, at Opernhaus Zürich, Oper Köln, De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi Trieste, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro San Carlo Napoli, Opéra de Nice, Opera Tokyo, Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg and Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. He has also celebrated successes on international concert stages in, for example, Austria, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Hungary, Spain, Bulgaria, Italy and Mexico under the baton of such renowned conductors as Ondrej Lenárd, Petr Altrichter, Tomáš Netopil, János Kovács, Leoš Svárovský, Andrew Parrott, Ralf Weikert, Ricco Saccani, Vladimir Jurowski, Serge Baudo, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Rastislav Štúr, Adam Medveczky, Kazushi Ono and others. In addition, he has regularly performed at concerts with Slovak and Hungarian orchestras, with Dresdner Philharmonie, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg.
