Biography
After his studies at the University College of Opera in Stockholm, the young Swedish tenor Nils Olsson made his debut as Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau in 1998. The same year he sang Rodolfo in La Bohéme and the title role of Haydn’s Orlando Paladino in Kaiserslauten. In Germany he has also sung Laca in Jenůfa and participated in Weill’s Mahagonny. During the autumn of 2001 Nils Olsson appeared as Florestan in Fidelio on tour in England with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera. He has sung Rodolfo in La Bohéme, Molqi in John Adam’s The Death of Klinghoffer and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. During spring 2002 he sang the Steersman in Der Fliegende Holländer at Malmö Musikteater. Summer 2002 included Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino in Lund, Sweden. During the 2002/2003 season Nils Olsson has been engaged by the San Francisco Opera, where he covered in the part of Bacchus in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. He will also appear as Brighella in the same opera with the Malmö Musikteater. Future engagements include Molqi in The death of Klinghoffer at the National Theater in Prague as well as productions at the San Francisco Opera. Nils Olsson is also engaged as a concert singer. During the spring 2001 he appeared in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Alan Gilbert. The preceding season he took part in a tour with Weill‘s Die sieben Todsünden with concerts at for example Concertgebow in Amsterdam and at the Barbican Centre in London.
