Nikoloz Lagvilava

Biography

Georgian baritone Nikoloz Lagvilava made his National Theatre Opera debut in 2020/21 season in the title role of Rigoletto (the State Opera production). He graduated from the State Conservatoire in his native town Tbilisi and mastered his skills at the Internationale Opernwerkstatt Schloss Laubach, Germany, and the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala. In 2003 he was awarded the 1st Prize at the Georgian Singers’ First Contest, and in the same year, he became soloist of the ensemble of the Georgian National Opera in Tbilisi. Since 2017/2018 he has been soloist of the Aalto Musiktheater und Filharmonie Essen, Germany, where he has sung Luna (Il trovatore), Rigoletto, Marcello (La bohème), Iago (Otello) and Escamillo (Carmen). He has guest appeared in the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo (Alfio, Cavalleria rusticana), the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow (Escamillo), Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava (Escamillo and Rigoletto), Komische Oper Berlin (Rigoletto), in Lille and Dijon (Nabucco), Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf (Scarpia, Tosca), etc. His operatic repertoire also comprises Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Amonasro (Aida), Don Carlo di Vargas (La forza del destino), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Guglielmo (Le villi), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Aleko.
