Biography

A recent graduate of the International Opera Studio in Zurich and a Glyndebourne Jerwood Young Artist, Moldovan soprano Natalia Tanasii made her professional debut at the age of 21 as Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) in the National Theatre of Moldova. In 2014 she joined the young ensemble of Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, where she performed Micaela in Calixto Bieito’s production of Carmen. A 2019 finalist of the Queen Sonja and Neue Stimmen Competitions, Tanasii’s highlights in the 2019/20 season include debuts as Mimi (La bohème) at the Teatro National de São Carlos, Lisbon and the State Opera, Prague, followed by her debut at the Salzburg Festival as Fünfte Magd (Elektra). In May 2020, she will return as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) to Zurich, where she had already sung Sandmännchen (Hänsel und Gretel), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Sklave (Salome), among others.
