Biography

Nana Dzidziguri grew up in Georgia and studied opera singing at the V. Sarajishvili State Conservatory in Tbilisi. While still a student, she made her debut at the Batumi State Opera as Carmen and appeared as Fenena in Nabucco. She also worked at the opera studio of the Tbilisi Music Academy, where she performed such roles as Maddalena in Rigoletto, Olga in Eugene Onegin, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Lyubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride. Nana Dzidziguri attended master classes led by Montserrat Caballé in Zaragoza, Mirella Freni and Enzo Dara in Modena, and Badri Maisuradze and Paata Burchuladze in Tbilisi. In 2016, she won first prize at the Consorso internationale Voci Verdiane in Busseto, as well as the Premio Roma. She also advanced to the final of the Montserrat Caballé International Opera Competition and the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino competition at the Opera di Firenze. She garnered acclaim as Carmen at the Braunschweig Festival. In the 2017/18 season, she excelled at the Staatstheater Braunschweig as Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlo, as Gertrud in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, the First Maid in Strauss’s Elektra and Masha in Shostakovich’s Moscow, Cheryomushki. Previously, the young mezzo-soprano was for three years a member of the Tbilisi State Opera, where the roles she sang included Carmen and Amneris, while she also appeared in productions of the Georgian composer Zakaria Paliashvili’s operas Abesalom and Eteri (as Naana) and Daisi (as Nano). In the 2018/19 season, she again dazzled as Carmen and performed to acclaim the role of Federica in a new production of Luisa Miller at the Opernhaus Wuppertal. She made her debut as Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera at the Landestheater Neustrelitz and sang Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie. At the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, she gave a well-received performance as Maddalena in Rigoletto. She earned positive reviews for her portrayal of Souffrance in the German premiere of Albéric Magnard’s Guercoeur at the Theater Osnabrück. In 2019, Nana Dzidziguri was praised for her performance of Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera at the Verdi Festival of the Tbilisi National Opera. In the 2019/20 season, she made her debut as Ms Quickly in a production of Verdi’s Falstaff at the Theater Osnabrück, she gave guest performances as Federica in Luisa Miller at the Landestheater Detmold and sang at a gala concert at the Bolshoi Theatre in Minsk. In the 2021/22 season, Nana Dzidziguri is scheduled to portray the title role in a new production of Carmen at the National Theatre in Prague.
