Guset of the Opera

Biography

Miriam Němcová studied at the Prague Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (composition and conducting, with Václav Neumann and others). In 1987 and 1988 she was a Czech Philharmonic stipendiary with the Prague Madrigalists, and she also received several scholarships to study at the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart with Prof. Helmuth Rilling.  She was permanently engaged as a conductor at the Prague Chamber Opera, F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec (also as director of the Opera), the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra and the State Opera Prague. Since September 1995 she has taught at and headed the conducting department of the Prague Conservatory, concurrently leading its symphony orchestra. She has guided international conducting classes in Hradec Králové, Seoul and elsewhere, most recently at Prague’s Studio lirico.  In addition, she has given concerts both in the Czech Republic and abroad, as a guest conductor and as artistic director of Praga Sinfonietta, Vox Pragae and the Czech National Choir. Since 2001 she has been a permanent guest of the Hradec Králové Orchestra, with whom she has recorded a CD featuring Smetana’s cycle of symphonic poems My Country.
