Biography

While still as a student at the Prague Conservatoire Milan Bürger was engaged as soloist of the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec (North Bohemia) and then in the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. From 1996 to 2011 he was soloist of the Prague State Opera, since January 2012 he was a soloist of the Czech National Opera. Milan Bürger has more than 42 roles in his repertoire: Méphistophélès (Gounod: Faust), Sarastro (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte), Philip II. (Verdi: Don Carlos), kníže Gremin (Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin), Kecal (Smetana: The Bartered Bride), Vodník (Dvořák: Rusalka), Timur (Puccini: Turandot), King of Egypt (Verdi: Aida) etc. He also regularly appears as soloist for oratorios, cantatas, and song recitals. He has appeared as guest abroad on opera stages as well as in concert halls, e.g. in Japan, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, France, Israel, Denmark and Switzerland. He has performed at the music festivals such as International Music Festival Prague Spring, Moravian Autumn in Brno, Bratislava Music Festivities, Festival of Chamber Music in Český Krumlov and others. Milan Bürger can be heard on the Clarton world CD recording of Antonín Dvořák's cantata The American Flag, on the Orfeo label of Antonín Dvořák's Armida  (with the Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Gerd Albrecht), on the DECCA recording of Pavel Haas's opera The Charlatan  and on Multisonic label of Václav Josef Tomášek's Requiem. He has also recorded a solo disc of Dvořák's Sacred Songs on the Clarton label and Russian Orthodox Church Chant on the same label.
