Polish baritone Mikołaj Zalasiński made his first appearance at the National Theatre Opera on 1 December 1999 as Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia). A graduate of the Music Academy in Katowice, he has won numerous singing competitions, as well as the Jan Kiepura Award for the best opera singer of 2009 (Poland) and the Amber Ring for the role of Renato in Un ballo in maschera. For his roles of Scarpia (Tosca) and Macbeth in the 2010/2011 season he was nominated for the Opernwelt magazine award. He is an acclaimed interpreter of Verdi roles such as Macbeth, Nabucco, Rigoletto, Luna, Iago, Renato, Don Carlo (La forza del destino and Ernani), Amonasro, Germont and Seid (Il corsaro). He also won acclaim as Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, King Roger, Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier), Scarpia (Tosca), Barnaba (La Gioconda), Jochanaan (Salome) and Wotan (Das Rheingold). He has guest appeared at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Regio in Turin, Opernhaus in Zurich, Kammeroper in Vienna, Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Teatro Real in Madrid, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Maggio Musicale in Florence, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Polish National Opera in Warsaw and opera houses in Beijing, Belfast, Berlin, Chicago, Dublin, Graz, Lausanne, Tokyo, Vilnius, Wiesbaden and others.
