Maximilian Schmitt

Biography

Tenor Maximilian Schmitt was a member of the Regensburg Cathedral Choir. Later on, he continued his studies at Berlin’s University of the Arts and in 2005 and 2006, he was a member of the young ensemble at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. As a sought-after concert singer he has worked with conductors and orchestras all over the world such as Franz Weiser-Most, Philipp Herreweghe, Daniel Harding, Teodor Currentzis, Jonathan Nott, Trevor Pinnock and Zubin Mehta, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra or Leipzig's Gewandhaus Orchestra and recently made his debut as Max in Der Freischütz in Essen and in Theater an der Wien in Calixto Bieito's staged production of Elias. Well known as a Lied singer, Maximilian Schmitt has performed at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and Cologne's Philharmonie, among others, accompanied by pianist Gerold Huber. Maximilian Schmitt is represented on a vast array of recordings.
