Biography

Matthew Woorman, Baritone was seen this past summer as Count Capulet Roméo et Juliettewith Maryland Lyric Opera, Antonio and Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro with Carrol Summer Opera, and as Allard Flagg in the world premiere of Alice Flagg at the Page to Stage Festival at the Kennedy Center. This may, Woorman will reprise his role in Joseph Kaz's new opera, Alice Flagg in Georgetown, South Carolina. Woorman is a recent graduate of Catholic University where he performed several roles including Leporello in Don Giovanni, Count Capulet inRoméo et Juliette, The Father “Peter” in Hänsel and Gretel, Elder McLean in Susannah, and Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow. Woorman was recently featured singing Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Montgomery Philharmonic. At Castleton Festival, Woorman covered the role of Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni under the tutelage of James Morris for the main stage production. As a member of the Castleton Artist Training Seminar(C.A.T.S.), Woorman was featured in several opera scenes at the CATS Scene Spectacular as Don Pasquale in Don Pasquale, Bartlo in Le nozze di Figaro, Giulio Cesare in Giulio Cesare, and Barone in La Traviata. Woorman performed the role of Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro in three performances at different locations in Italy with Amalfi Coast Summer Music Festival including one performance at the Naples Conservatory of Music. Woorman performed the role of Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro under the tutelage François Loup of Belcantanti Opera Summer Festival where he also covered Dandini in La Cenerentola. Principal teachers include Jeffrey Springer, Gustavo Ahualli, Bonnie Kunkel, and Molly Donnelly. Woorman earned his BM from Catholic University of America and an AA in Music from Montgomery College, Rockville. Woorman is currently an emerging artist with Maryland Lyric Opera.
