Martin Kotúček
Biography
The Slovak set and costume designer Martin Kotúček studied at the Josef Vydra School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, from which he graduated in 2000 with the designs for a production of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov’s play Ivanov, directed by Marián Amsler. He has created sets and costumes for numerous theatre and film projects, with the most notable recent examples being those for the productions of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava of Anna Jablonská’s Pagans (2012), Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (2014; both directed by Marián Amsler) and Giovanni Paisiello’s opera Il Re Teodoro in Venezia (2015, directed by Lenka Horinková), the Arena Theatre in Bratislava of Pavel Kohout’s play The Uprising (directed by Sláva Daubnerová, 2014) and the Klicpera Theatre in Hradec Králové of Molière’s comedy L'école des femmes (directed by Marián Amsler, 2015). In 2007 he worked as set design assistant to Vladimír Čáp on the production of Giacomo Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the State Opera Prague (directed by Jozef Bednárik). In addition to theatre and film, he has also designed sets and costumes for TV shows (Revived Dances, the First Czech-Slovak SuperStar, Talent Mania, etc.) and other projects.
