Marie Šimůnková

Biography

Soprano Marie Šimůnková studied classical singing at the Prague Conservatory under Yvona Škvárová, with whom she continues her studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. During her studies she performed several opera and operetta roles, such as Stázi (E. Kálmán: Die Csárdásfürstin), Récije (Ch. W. Gluck: An Unexpected Meeting), Mařenka (B. Smetana: The Bartered Bride), Helena (O. Nedbal: Polish Blood), Eleonora (B. Martinů: Tears of the Knife) and others. On the stages of the National Theatre she sang solo roles in A. Březina's operas Tomorrow Will... and Toufar and Noye's Fludde (B. Britten). This season she can be seen here in the roles of Barbarina (W. A. Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), the First Genius (W. A. Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) and Karolka (L. Janáček: Jenůfa). In the South Bohemian Theatre she performs the role of Papagena (Die Zauberflöte). She has repeatedly participated in singing courses at the European Music Academy in Teplice, as well as courses under the direction of conductor Norbert Baxa at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen. She is also engaged in concert activities, especially in the Church of St. Nicholas in Prague.
