Biography

Mezzo-soprano Marie-Luise Dreßen studied at the University for Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig and she also worked with Christa Ludwig, Brigitte Fassbaender and Franz Grundheber at master classes. She was a member of the Altenburg Gera Theatre (2009–2011) and guest appeared the Malmö Opera. From 2011 to 2016, she joined the ensemble of the Luzerner Theater and made guest appearance at the Theater Basel. Then she was a permanent ensemble member at the Staatstheater Kassel. Since the 2019/20 season, the artist has been working freelance and regularly gives guest performances at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, Festival im Steinbruch in St. Magarethen, Teatro Real in Madrid, Theater Freiburg, Oper Köln, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theater Bremen and Semperoper Dresden. In 2023 she debuted at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. In the 2023/24 season Marie-Luise Dreßen performs the central female character in Peter Maxwell Davies’ Miss Donnithornes’ Maggot at the Oper Leipzig.
