Biography

Danish tenor Magnus Vigilius made his debut at the National Theatre Opera in November 2018 as Števa (Jenůfa) and has since returned to the National Theatre in the roles of Lohengrin, Boris (Káťa Kabanová) and Tenor/Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos). He has guest-starred as Stolzing (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Leipzig, Boris (Káťa Kabanová) at the Semper Opera in Dresden, Albert Gregor (The Makropulos Affair) at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Siegmund (Die Walküre) at the Müpa in Budapest, Kiel, Leipzig, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Helsinki and Zurich. In addition to the German repertoire, Magnus Vigilius has also excelled in Italian roles, including Cavaradossi (Tosca), which he sang both at the Royal Opera in Stockholm and Malmö Opera, as well as in operas by Leoš Janáček; he has performed the roles of Števa (Jenůfa), Janíček (The Diary of One Who Disappeared) as well as Tichon and Boris (Káťa Kabanová) on opera stages throughout Europe. Magnus Vigilius graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. After ten years of performing minor and leading roles in opera houses in Scandinavia and England, he won 2nd prize in the 2014 Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition in Aalborg, Denmark, which launched his international career in the German dramatic repertoire. He made his debut in Wagner operas in 2016, as Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) at the festival Opera på Skäret in Sweden.
