
Biography
Polish-Austrian soprano Magdalena Anna Hofmann makes her National Theatre Opera debut in 2020/21 season as Isolde (Tristan und Isolde). She was born in Warsaw and completed her vocal training in Vienna. She began her career as a mezzo-soprano and sang her first soprano role, Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro, at the Klosterneuburg Festival in 2011. This was followed by Kundry in Parsifal in Tallinn, Portia in André Tchaikowsky’s The Merchant of Venice at the Bregenzer Festspiele, and Senta in Der fliegende Holländer as well as Carlotta in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten in Opéra de Lyon. Recent highlights have led her to the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen as Frau in Schönberg’s Erwartung and Senta, to the Wiener Festwochen as Kundry in the world premiere of Mondparsifal Alpha 1-8 by Jonathan Meese and Bernhard Lang / Richard Wagner, with Erwartung to the Berliner Philharmonie, the Symphony Hall in Birmingham and Bern, to the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen and to Theater Bonn as Senta, to Essen as The Foreign Princess in Dvořák’s Rusalka, with the title role of Jenö Hubay’s Anna Karenina to the Konzert Theater Bern and Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder to Casa da Música in Porto, to Theater Hagen as Isolde in Tristan und Isolde, to Stadttheater Minden as Sieglinde in Die Walküre and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung, and to Teatro Comunale di Bologna as Leonora in Fidelio.
