Lukáš Timulák

Biography

After the study at Dance Conservatory in Bratislava (Slovakia) and Academie de Danse Classique Princesse Grace in Monaco in 1997 Lukas joined Les Ballets de Monte Carlo where he danced for three years under J.Ch. Maillot. During those years he danced pieces from choreographers like J.Ch. Maillot, G. Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Nacho Duato.

In 2000 he joined Nederlands Dans Theater 2 (NDT) and two years later Nederlands Dans Theater 1, where he worked until 2010. In NDT 1 he had a possibility to work on new creations or ballets from repertory from choreographers like Jiri Kylian, Wiliam Forsythe, Mats Ek, Paul Lightfoot/Sol Leon, Hans van Manen, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite among others.

He danced in theaters in New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Shanghai etc…

Since he came to NDT he started to choreograph. Since 2001 he did regularly short pieces for NDT choreographic workshop. For the project C-Scope in Regentes Theater in The Hague he made 'Dear Reader' (2004), 'Due a Due' (2005), 'Bodily writing' (2007). For NDT 1 he made 'Twenty' (2005) and 'I SAW I WAS I'(2006) as part of UpComing Choreographers project. For NDT 2 he made 'Oneness' which was premiered during Holland Dance Festival 2007 in The Hague. For Slovak National Theater in Bratislava he made 'Real Time' (2008). His another creation for the NDT2 is 'Offspring' (2009), which was premiered the day his daughter Zoe was born. This piece has been performed in Holland, UK, Slovakia and France. 'Urtanz' (2009) was premiered during TodaysArt Festival in The Hague with dancers from NDT 1.

'Shortcut' (2010) duet in collaboration with Francesco Nappa. 'Instrument' (2010) a short dance movie in collaboration with Ruben van Leer premiered during Cinedans festival in Amstardam 'Eroica' (2010) his longest piece was created for Gothenburg Ballet in Sweden, and 'Masculine/Feminine' (2011) for Nederlands Dans Theater 2. 'A Place Between' (2011) for Konpainia Danzaz in San Sebastian. 'A Game' (2012) has been premiered at Korzo Theater in The Hague.

Lately his interest in film led him to study at the prestigious New York Film Academy during the month of January 2012. Bale da Cidade de Sao Paulo has premiered “Offspring” in 2012 in Teatro Municipal in SP originally created for NDT2. In 2014, he created 'Inside' (2014) for the Luzerner Theater in Lucerne, Switzerland.

His latest creations 'Body & Language' (2015) has been premiered at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Germany, and Dot to Dot (2015), for Dantzaz Konpainia.

He is currently working on a new creation for the Royal Swedish Ballet set to have the premiere in November 2018.

Most his works since 2004 are in collaboration with designer Peter Bilak, concerning new concepts for contemporary dance, and in 2017 they have started Make Move Think foundation for interdisciplinary artistic collaboration.
