Lucie Mertová

Biography

The dancer, choreographer and stage director Lucie Mertová studied at the Dance Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU) in Prague, and also attended dance and theatre classes in Germany and France. As a dancer and performance artist, she has participated in independent dance and theatre projects, and appeared in Prague National Theatre productions. She has focused on Indian dance and circus too. As a director and choreographer, she worked in Germany on shows for the Traumtheater, specialised in circus arts. Her choreographies for the renowned Czech Duo Štauberti triumphed at the prestigious Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo in 2018. Furthermore, Lucie Mertová has worked on programmes for both public and commercial TV stations. In 1994, she co-founded TABLEŠ – Visual-Physical Theatre, a loose association of dancers and choreographers. From 1999 to 2002, she headed the ballet section of the State Opera Prague. Mainly working in theatre, since 1989 Lucie Mertová has choreographed more than 40 opera and drama productions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. As an assistant stage director and choreographer, she participated in the Opera Mozart project (Chamber Opera Prague), within which she collaborated with Jiří Nekvasil, Daniel Dvořák and Simona Rybáková, staging Mozart’s best-known operas for summer performances at the Estates Theatre in Prague.
