The Romanian baritone originally studied theology at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj. After graduation, he followed his passion for singing and graduated from the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. Further study followed with Giorgio Zancanaro and Bonaldo Giaiotti. At the Academy of Cluj he made his debut as Rigoletto. Following his first engagement in 2017 in Germany – in the role of Renato in Un ballo in maschera at the Theater Regensburg – the baritone Lucian Petrean is rapidly developing a major international career. He has performed Scarpia in Catania and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He debuted as Amonasro in the new production of Aida at Theater Magdeburg and sang this role also at Opera National de Lorraine in a new production celebrating the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the theater.
