Lubor Kvaček


Soloist of the National Theatre ballet (born on 19. 3. 1972 in Brno) In 1990 Lubor Kvaček graduated from the Dancing Conservatoire in Brno. Between 1990 and 1993 he was a soloist of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. There his dancing roles included the Jester in Swan Lake, Alan in Wary in Vain, the Firebird and a number of roles in Libor Vaculík’s ballets. In 1993-94 he was a member of the Army Artistic Ensemble, in 1994-96 a soloist of the National Theatre in Brno. At that time he was nominated for a Thalia Prize for the role of the Peruvian in the ballet Gaité Parisienne, choreographed by Zdeněk Prokeš. In 1996-97 he performed as a soloist of the National Theatre in Prague, his roles including the Jester in Swan Lake and Cinderella, Bagheera in Mowgli and a solo in Kylián’s Field Mass. Between 1997 and 2001 Lubor Kvaček was a member of the Prague Chamber Ballet. There he danced in Jiří Kylián’s choreographies Six Dances, Evening Songs and Stoolgame, as well as in Getting Dark, Sea of Tears, The Boy and the Death and Slavonic Dances in the choreography of Libor Vaculík, in Robert North’s ballet The Girl and the Death. He also met there the present chief of the National Theatre ballet, Petr Zuska, when working on the choreographies Little Gallows, Sonata and Maria’s Dream. For the role of the Rabbi in Šmok’s ballet Golem he won the Thalia Prize 2001. Lubor Kvaček says that above all he likes dancing roles into which he can put a piece of himself. Since the 2002-2003 season he has again been a soloist of the National Theatre ballet ensemble. Notable roles include Gremio in Cranko’s The Taming of the Shrew, Giovanni Sforza in the dance drama Lucrezia Borgia and Hilarion in Hampson’s Giselle. As for the modern repertoire, most attention has been attracted by his performances in Jiří Kylián’s choreographies Sinfonietta and the solo part in the ballet mixed bill The Butterfly Effect, Songs of the Earth and Family Album.
